The Process

The stages below outline a typical process for a bathroom renovation or new build project:

Step 1 - Consultation & Quote

The very first step of any bathroom renovation or build project is a consultation, whether that be in person, via phone call, email or Zoom. In the consultation, we will discuss your needs and requirements for the space/s and your design style. If I am doing a home consultation I will also take measurements of the space if it’s existing, or I can work from a rough plan with dimensions you’ve drawn, or from a set of architect’s plans for new builds.

If you would like me to also project manage and engage with trades for the duration of the project I can also provide a quote for that from the consultation.

Step 2 - Look Sheet

Based on our discussions from the consultation I will provide you with a look sheet or two to give you an idea of the design style I envision for your bathroom. A look sheet shows you images that reflect my initial thoughts about the design style and materials I envision for your project. This gives you a good indication of if we are on the same page regarding the overall design direction of your bathroom.

Step 3 - Layout

Once you are happy with the design direction, I start the layout phase.

If you are doing a new build, this is the stage where I would look over any architectural plans and provide any suggestions or recommendations as to how we can improve the bathroom layout to maximise functionality before construction begins.

For renovations, I look over the existing layout of the bathroom to see if we can maximise your space by rearranging any plumbing, or by extending into another area depending on your requirements and budget.

Step 4 - Design

In this phase I will create a drawing package with plans, elevations and 3D renders for your builder to work and quote from. These plans have detailed dimensions, product notes and all finishes shown. These plans are also a great visual tool for you to see what your completed bathroom renovation will look like before construction begins and the perfect chance to make any last-minute changes.

I will also provide you with two complete finishes and fittings schedules. These schedules detail every product within the design (such as vanity, light fittings, bath, shower rail, taps etc) and every finish within the design (such as paint colours, grout colour/brand, silicone colour/brand, grout spacer size, trim colours etc). Each schedule also includes links to every product if you are planning to purchase the items yourself, and also links to PDF documents regarding installation manuals and warranty info.

If I am project managing your project or purchasing your products - I will provide you with a quote from my suppliers which will include my trade discounts.

All files are provided to you in PDF format so you can either forward or print out all relevant information for your trades if you are self-project managing. I find this to be the best way for projects to run as efficiently as possible, so everyone is on the same page with the same information.

Step 5 - Ordering

Once you are happy with your fittings and finishes schedules, if I am ordering your products and you have approved your quote, I will place the order for these now. I like to do this before construction begins to avoid any building delays further down the track which often happens if left until later with items going out of stock etc. By having all products on site, the builder is able to work as efficiently as possible and keep to the build schedule.

Step 6 - The Build

During the time in which your project is being constructed and brought to life, I will be available for site visits as required for Auckland-based projects, and available via phone or email at all times for any queries or issues that arise. I will be in touch with tradespeople if I am project managing your build, to make sure everything runs on schedule and that all finishes are to my level of expectation.

Step 7 - Completion!

As the build nears completion, I will put together a quote for any furnishings if required - these can be things such as towels, vases, artwork etc to finish the space off perfectly. For out-of-Auckland projects, I can arrange for these to be delivered directly to you.

For Auckland projects, I will bring all furnishings and styling items to you and style them in your home ready for you to enjoy your new space!

*Please note that this is an example of my typical design process. Not every project is the same so some aspects may differ between projects depending on your requirements.
